Issues

War

Violence and hatred only breed more violence and hatred. Every nation, like every individual, has the right to defend itself. But occupying foreign nations and forcing democracy through the barrel of a gun are not defensive actions. Congress should never be complicit with undeclared war nor should it appropriate funds for such purpose. As your Senator my first priority will be to bring home our soldiers from the countless bases all over the world. Foreign intervention only breeds enmity among our neighbors and increases the risk of harm to our nation and our people.

Taxes

Every government dollar is a dollar that cannot be invested in the economy for productive purposes. Taxation is a problem, but it is not THE problem. The problem is that government does things it should never do in the first place. Lower taxes can only be achieved once wars, economic stimulus programs, and wealth redistribution end. The income tax system should not be used to give favors to certain groups or to promote/protect certain industries.

War on Drugs

The war on drugs does not work. People are still using drugs. Prohibition did not prevent people from consuming alcohol, and in fact generated the economic incentives for gang violence. The financial strain on governments at all levels weakens our economy, and preventing industrial hemp cultivation causes the US to miss out on a huge opportunity for productive, environmentally friendly jobs. End the drug war, end the violence, all while helping the economy. The drug war really has no leg to stand on.

Health Care

People need to understand that “free” health care is not free. The false perception that health services are “free” only causes demand to explode, thus raising the actual costs. As more and more people can no longer afford the costs of a bloated industry, more and more people begin to call on government to save them. No one wants grandma to have trouble affording her medicine, but her medicine would actually be affordable if it were not for government inflation of this industry. These massive medical programs need to be phased out now, before they completely bankrupt us and leave grandma worrying about more than the cost of her medicine.

Education

At the very least, sucking education money from the states in the form of taxes, then only sending it back to the states if they comply with federal standards is insane. Parents and teachers want to decide for themselves how to educate their children, because every family and every child is unique. The closer we can get those decisions to the individual the better, and the first step is getting the federal government out.

Immigration

The federal quotas on immigration need to be removed. People investing their labor, capital, and ideas in this country is what will make our economy grow and prosper. Beyond a very simple process to screen for known criminals, there should be no barrier to immigration.

Gun Rights

Every living being has a right to defend itself, and Americans are no exception. Guns are our last line of defense to protect our life, liberty, and property, including threats that may come from a tyrannical government. We need to repeal the National Firearms Act, the Gun Control Act, and the Brady Bill. The ATF should also be eliminated.

Government Spending

“Small government” Republicans are always talking about how they want to make broad spending cuts, or make government more efficient, or cut down on “waste, fraud, and abuse”. What they do not understand is that the federal government has its hands in matters it should never even talk about. Creating jobs, saving the auto industry, educating your children, controlling agricultural prices, waging wars, spying on the American people, bailing out the wealthy bankers, continuing the war on drugs, and managing your health care should not even be in the government budget. It’s not about making government more efficient. It is about what government should do and what it should not do. Eliminating functions it should not have in the first place will bring spending under control.

Federal Reserve

The people should be able to select the majority currency through normal market competitive forces. No currency should be mandated, and no currency should be outlawed. Let the people decide what is the best option. There are inflation-free currencies out there as well as digital currencies which do not favor any particular group by design. Let’s kick the Federal Reserve Note out and start afresh.

Marriage

Why do you need a license to be married? Marriage licenses were originally created to prevent African Americans from being able to marry. That’s not something we should be proud of, or seek to imitate. In the end, love is dictated only by the people who are in love, and it is up to them to decide the terms of the marriage. Government should neither sanction nor define marriage. No government paperwork is necessary, period.
